AOC Gets Rattled By Tom Homan, Sends Urgent Letter To DOJ

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is wanting answers from newly confirmed Attorney General Pam Bondi after current border czar Tom Homan suggested that she could be under federal investigation. In a letter to Bondi, Ocasio-Cortez questioned whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) had “yielded to political pressure” following Homan’s calls for an investigation into her actions regarding immigration enforcement.

Homan recently stated that he had asked Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove to investigate the congresswoman over her efforts to advise constituents on how to respond to visits and enforcement actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. However, Ocasio-Cortez claims she has not received any formal notice of such an inquiry and is pressing Bondi for transparency on the matter.

In her letter to Bondi, Ocasio-Cortez wrote, “I write to request clarity on whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) has yielded to political pressure and attempts to weaponize the agency against elected officials whose speech they disagree with. Over the past two weeks, ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan has gone on multiple forums threatening political prosecution against me, citing resources I distributed informing my constituents and the American public of their constitutional and legal rights.”

She then claimed that Homan’s calls for an investigation represent a dangerous weaponization of federal law enforcement against political opponents, framing it as a violation of her First Amendment rights. The congresswoman demanded a response from the DOJ by March 5, seeking confirmation on whether she or her office was actively under investigation for “executing congressional responsibilities.”

She also accused Homan of attempts to use [the DOJ] to politically “intimidate” duly elected officials.

The controversy stems from a “Know Your Rights” webinar that Ocasio-Cortez hosted on Instagram Live. The webinar, conducted in both English and Spanish, featured lawyers from the Immigrant Defense Project and provided guidance to illegal immigrants on how to respond to ICE enforcement actions.

The congresswoman’s office also distributed flyers outlining ICE tactics and advising undocumented individuals on their legal options. Among the materials provided was a flyer stating that individuals “do not have to open the door” for ICE agents and that law enforcement cannot enter a home without a judicially signed warrant.

Ocasio-Cortez’s office is facilitating pro bono legal services for immigrants facing deportation orders and encouraging those “worried about getting picked up by ICE” to fill out privacy release forms so her office can intervene.

Homan, speaking to Fox News host Laura Ingraham earlier this month, suggested that AOC’s actions could be impeding federal law enforcement efforts: “And I sent an email today to the Deputy Attorney General. At what level is that impediment? I’m not an attorney, I’m not a prosecutor. Is that impeding our law enforcement efforts?”

Homan further stated that he is working with the DOJ to determine whether Ocasio-Cortez had crossed a legal boundary, adding,  “So maybe AOC is going to be in trouble now, but I need the AOG to opine on that. Because impediment is impediment in my opinion.”

This is not the first time that Ocasio-Cortez and Homan have publicly clashed. Their feud dates back to the Trump administration, when Homan aggressively defended ICE policies and enforcement actions against illegal immigration, while Ocasio-Cortez has been one of the most vocal advocates for abolishing the agency.

During her first term in Congress, Ocasio-Cortez staged a controversial photo op at a migrant detention center, where she was seen appearing to cry outside the facility. Critics have since accused her of using the border crisis for political theater while simultaneously undermining enforcement efforts.
