U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said that former President Donald Trump orchestrated a “terrorist attack” on January 6 during an appearance on CNN’s “State Of The Union.”
“What do you say to an independent voter or an average voter who looks at what’s going on with Donald Trump?” Tapper asked before listing the number of politically motivated civil and criminal cases targeting the former president. “What do you say to a voter who says, well, that doesn’t look like he’s being treated equally before the law that looks like somebody that the government is going after?”
“Has there ever been a president, Republican or Democrat that has been subject to this level of criminal charges, indictments, and investigations? This is not about party. This is not about politics. This is about corruption and criminality,” the far-left congresswoman replied. “We’re talking about an individual who ordered essentially a terrorist attack on the Capital of the United States in order to retain power. That, that is not about being a Republican. It is not about being a Democrat. It’s about being an unethical individual who is subject and prone to criminality.”
Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly exaggerated the extent of the January 6 Capitol protest and subsequent minor riot. In the days following the incident, the “squad” Democrat gave a number of interviews in which she claimed she feared for her life.
“You have all of those thoughts where, at the end of your life, and all of these thoughts come rushing to you. And that’s what happened to a lot of us on Wednesday,” Ocasio-Cortez said at the time. “I did not know if I was going to make it to the end of that day alive.” She went on to claim that a number of her colleagues and congressional staffers “were almost killed.”
Her dramatic claims have faced significant backlash since it was revealed that Ocasio-Cortez was not even in the building at the time of the minor riot.
The congresswoman’s rhetoric on January 6 represents a complete reversal from her stance on the Black Lives Matter race riots in 2020. “The whole point of protesting is to make people uncomfortable,” AOC said of the riots that caused billions of dollars in property damage, forced then-President Trump into a bunker and more than 20 deaths.
