AOC Says The Quiet Part Out Loud, Celebrates Trump’s NYC Trial As A ‘Legal Version Of An Ankle Bracelet’
U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made a stunning admission on Wednesday when she bragged about how Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against former President Donald Trump is limiting his ability to campaign.
Trump has been stuck in New York City on weekdays throughout the last four and a half weeks in order to defend himself in the case. Judge Juan Merchan — a Biden donor whose daughter is a Democrat political operative — has ruled that Trump must be present for every day of the trial.
On Wednesday, Trump headed to the Bronx for a rally given the situation. AOC — who represents parts of the borough — took the opportunity to trash the former president and mock the restrictions placed on his campaign.
“Donald Trump is broke. He needs money. He’s hosting a rally to try to con people and try to fleece them out of every dollar that they have to fund his own legal fees,” she told reporters.
“And by the way, he’s doing it in the South Bronx, not to make a point, but because he’s got court and the man practically has the legal version of an ankle bracelet around him, and he can’t leave the five boroughs because he always has to be in court. And so it is truly an embarrassment to him.”
Trump is currently facing four criminal cases and 91 charges overall, though the New York case is the only one that has gone to trial thus far. The other three cases have faced a number of delays due to conflicts of interest, disqualification hearings, and legal impropriety on the part of Special Counsel Jack Smith.
Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were met with fury from Trump allies who have repeatedly slammed the trial as “election interference.”
“AOC admits the Democrat’s Lawfare against Trump is like an electronic ankle monitor limiting his ability to campaign,” U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) wrote in an X post.
Ocasio-Cortez is currently facing a primary challenge for the first time since 2020. Her opponent, former Wall Street investor Marty Dolan, has portrayed AOC as too radical and positioned himself as a moderate alternative.
