Democrat New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has come under fire from her own party after a pro-Palestine rally in New York City drew her disdain. This comes in the wake of a devastating attack by Hamas that has left the Middle East, and especially Israel, reeling.
The New York City Democratic Socialists of America, once AOC’s party, promoted a rally in support of Palestinians on Sunday, a mere day after the onset of the attack. The rally was described as being “in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to resist 75 years of occupation and apartheid,” as per the group’s tweet.
AOC, addressing the rally, stated, “It should not be hard to shut down hatred and antisemitism where we see it. That is a core tenet of solidarity.”
She further added, “The bigotry and callousness expressed in Times Square on Sunday were unacceptable and harmful in this devastating moment. It also did not speak for the thousands of New Yorkers who are capable of rejecting both Hamas’ horrifying attacks against innocent civilians as well as the grave injustices and violence Palestinians face under occupation.”

Nadia Tykulsker, the NYC DSA’s chair, appeared to shoot back at AOC this morning, telling Politico’s Playbook that the group advertised the event “at the request of a coalition partner because we believe in equality and justice for all Palestinians and Israelis, and we know that war will take more lives.”
“It is shameful that politicians in our state are exploiting this moment to target a socialist organization and divide the vibrant left in New York — whose sole aim in politics is to grow the power of working people for freedom against exploitation and oppression — instead of focusing our attention where it should be: on the atrocities and tragic loss of life in the region,” she added.
On Monday afternoon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu laid out Israel’s strategic steps in the ongoing conflict with Hamas with a passionate address to the nation. “Israel is at war,” Netanyahu solemnly began. “We didn’t want this war. It was forced upon us in the most brutal and savage way. But though Israel didn’t start this war, Israel will finish it.”
Netanyahu’s address was not merely a call to arms but a delineation of the horrors visited upon the Israeli people. “They are savages. Hamas is ISIS. And just as the forces of civilization united to defeat ISIS, the forces of civilization must support Israel in defeating Hamas.”
It just blows my mind that Jewish people in NYC would send a Democratic Socialist like Alexandra Ocasio Cortez to Washington to represent them. I guess the National Socialists weren’t running anyone? https://t.co/X7VQREm3Y5

Ilhan Omar, AOC, Cori Bush, Rashida Tlaib and the entire SQUAD should be expelled from Congress for their hateful rhetoric towards Israel.

AOC fired off on Israel years ago, only to show her ignorance on the subject later, stating that she's "not an expert" on geopolitics, despite majoring in international relations.pic.twitter.com/NmkP1kQhoe

Just a reminder the Twitter account of @aoc with 13 million followers has gone completely dark over the rape, kidnapping, and summary executions of innocent residents in Israel over the past two days pic.twitter.com/0A6s10WIZm
