Hudson Meek, the up-and-coming actor best known for his adolescent role in the hit film “Baby Driver,” died suddenly before the holidays at the age of 16.

Meek was the victim of a tragic car accident when he fell from a vehicle on December 19th traveling in Vestavia Hills, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, according to the BBC. Authorities attributed his death to blunt force trauma sustained in the fall, and he passed away two days later while undergoing intensive care at an area hospital.

“His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met,” his mother Lani Wells Meek posted on Facebook. “Please pray for our family and friends as we all process this sudden and tragic loss.”

Meek was halfway through his sophomore year at Vestavia Hills High School. An online obituary recalls his final moments and last wishes. “He was surrounded by friends, family, and the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Hudson was an organ donor, and his family is comforted by knowing that he will continue to help others for years to come,” it reads. Lani Meek and father Derek Firth Meek plan to establish the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship for students of Meek’s high school.

Meek trained at Acting Out Academy in Vestavia Hills, which released a statement upon news of his death. “Hudson Meek was a beloved and talented member of the Acting Out Academy community since the beginning. But that is just one piece of the magical person that he was,” said owner Meg Deusner. “He was kind, he was faithful, he was funny and lit up any room. He touched so many lives and will be missed beyond measure. The whole Meek family has been a huge part of our community and was instrumental in making Acting Out and many of our actors what we are today. Our hearts are broken as we continue to pray for them.”

Born August 2008, Meek’s acting career began in 2014 with small parts in “The Santa Con,” a Lifetime Channel Christmas movie, and a reboot of the series “MacGyver.” He landed a role in Sony Pictures’ 2017 action film “Baby Driver,” playing the childhood version of Ansel Elgort’s namesake character. His obituary indicates some of Meek’s final projects will be released in 2025.

Authorities with the Vestavia Hills Police Department are still piecing together the cause of Meek’s fatal crash, according to media reports.
