“Nobody is above the law” has become the American left’s favorite phrase as President Biden’s DOJ and far-left district attorneys continue to bring charges against their main political rival in former President Trump. During the Trump presidency, however, the same elected Democrats and left-wing pundits were constantly accusing Trump of weaponizing the DOJ while making “banana republic” accusations. This was detailed in a supercut compiled by The Trumpet Daily.
“Now that he’s got the right attorney general positioned to do it, we now know they really have been trying to gin up criminal prosecutions and criminal investigations into the president’s perceived enemies,” said MSNBC host Rachel Maddow in 2020. “Politically motivated persecution, right? ‘I’ll roll in the FBI on you;’ that’s how banana republics work right?”
The clip then cut to news breaking about the raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate last summer before returning to Maddow. “I feel worried about the prospect of the Justice Department being used as a tool – this president or any,” Maddow said, again in 2020. “Any capable prosecutor can get a grand jury to hand down an indictment of something as innocent as a ham sandwich,” Maddow can be heard saying in another segment before the clip cuts to special counsel Jack Smith.
Trumpet Daily’s supercut features similar statements from U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), MSNBC host Joy Reid and several others. “Donald Trump and his attorney general are using the Justice Department,” said late night host Steven Colbert in 2020. “The only difference between this and a banana republic is that Trump does not eat fruit.”

Former President Trump never okayed an investigation into Hillary Clinton over her classified emails scandal after campaigning on “locking her up.” Instead, Trump offered an olive branch to his political rivals in his 2016 victory speech, not knowing that federal law enforcement agencies and Hillary Clinton were scheming on a now thoroughly discredited plot linking Trump with Russian intelligence agencies.
“I’ve just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us. It’s about us. On our victory, and I congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard-fought campaign,” Trump said after winning the election. “I mean, she fought very hard. Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country.”
“I mean that very sincerely. Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division, have to get together. To all Republicans and Democrats and independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people,” Trump continued. “It is time. I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be President for all of Americans, and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country.”
Trump is now facing more than 700 years in prison.
