Beloved GOP Senator Issues Update On His Son’s Mysterious Health Battle
U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) is asking for the public’s prayers as his son fights for his life against a mysterious illness that doctors are still struggling to understand.
Outside the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Mullin and his son Andrew told social media followers about the latest update and prognosis since the young man went in for surgery back in April.
“We’re back at the Mayo Clinic,” Mullin said in a new video posted on Tuesday. He looked at his son.
“I feel like we’re at… we’re in a good start, right?” he asks.
“I mean, we’re going in a direction, so any direction is better than no direction,” Andrew replied, noting the needle marks on his arm where nurses drew blood from him for another round of tests.
“I think at this point we’re at a gallon of blood,” Sen. Mullin joked, to which his son quipped, “I think we’re past gallon — we’re to gallons.”
Both men kept the message lighthearted, with Mullin revealing his son’s doctor made a “funny” observation about where his health is currently at.
“If this is actually what’s causing the situation, we’ll share the story with you later,” the Republican teased.
Asked by his father if the episode was a “lesson learned,” he reacted with disgust.
“It sounds like I have an STD! I promise you it’s not that!” Andrew shouted as his father doubled over in laughter and struggled to thank his fans for their concern.
“We’ll keep you updated, and thank you for your prayers,” he said with a smile.
After a few more tests, Mullin will head back to his day job, where he is expected to vote on a second rescissions package. Andrew, meanwhile, will return to his internship in the office of Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL).
“We’ve gotta keep this country going in the right direction,” he declared.

In their last update together, the Mullin men were seen in a hospital shortly before Andrew underwent two surgeries. He had noticeable bruising under his eyes and revealed he had asked the Mayo staff for full sedation, a request they unfortunately couldn’t meet.
Other members of the family have been beset by concurrent health struggles, the senator has said. Mullin underwent eye surgery on April 11 while his wife, Christie, had “major knee reconstructive surgery” just three days prior.
Compounding matters, Mullins’s mother had a stroke on the day of his procedure. However, he said on April 17 that both women in his life have recovered from their health scares.
Andrew, the second of Mullins’s three sons, has been battling his unknown health condition since January, when he collapsed during wrestling practice at college.
“Andrew has been dealing with something a little different since January,” the senator said while standing next to his son in a video posted earlier that month. “He was at practice at OU and um —”
“[I] had a severe side pain and had to go to the E.R. and get checked out,” Andrew said. The University of Oklahoma grad said doctors found fluid in his lungs and “growth spots” that kept getting worse, Fox News reported.
