Ben Carson Breaks His Silence On Surgeon General Rumors: ‘Excited To Speak With President Trump’

Recent rumors have suggested that Dr. Ben Carson might be appointed as the U.S. Surgeon General in President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming administration.

In a tweet Sunday afternoon, the renowned neurosurgeon and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, addressed the swirling rumors about his potential return to the Trump administration—this time as Surgeon General.

However, Carson clarified that while he remains committed to advancing the “America First” agenda, he will not be assuming the Surgeon General role.

“I am excited to speak with President Trump about how I will continue to advance the America First agenda, and I am meeting with him in the near future. However, contrary to reports, I will not be serving as the Surgeon General,” Carson wrote.

Carson’s statement comes amid widespread speculation about the composition of Donald Trump’s administration as he prepares for his second term following his victory in the 2024 presidential election.

Reports suggesting Carson might take up the Surgeon General post had stirred up discussion among supporters. Known for his pioneering work in pediatric neurosurgery and his 2016 presidential campaign, Carson’s name recognition and medical background made him a natural contender for the position in the eyes of many observers.

However, his tweet squashed these rumors, leaving open the question of what role—if any—Carson might play in Trump’s second administration. While Carson left HUD in 2021 without plans for a formal return to public office, he has remained an outspoken advocate for conservative policies and frequently defended Trump on the campaign trail.

In recent years, Carson has praised Trump’s efforts in housing and urban development, especially regarding initiatives aimed at improving economic development and reducing regulations in distressed communities. Despite occasional disagreements on policy specifics, Carson remained a loyal cabinet member and ally of Trump during his administration.

The Surgeon General serves as the nation’s leading spokesperson on public health matters and oversees the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

In his previous term, President Trump appointed Dr. Jerome Adams as Surgeon General, who served from September 2017, to January 2021. Dr. Adams, an anesthesiologist and former Indiana State Health Commissioner, played a significant role during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
