Biden Admin Puts DeSantis In Sights With New Investigation Into Migrant Flights

Published

The Biden administration has now put Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, in their sights as the Treasury Department inspector general has now confirmed via letter that Democratic lawmakers are now planning to audit the spending of funds to send migrants to Martha’s Vineyard to determine if it was inappropriate use of money.

Isn’t that rich? The federal government coming after a state governor over whether or not he was properly using funds. If that doesn’t make you chuckle, check yourself at the door, because that’s a gut buster.

“The lawmakers asked the Treasury Department to look into whether Florida improperly used American Rescue Plan funds for the migrant flights to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, which drew widespread media attention,” a Fox News report said. “Florida lawmakers authorized a $12 million migrant program funded with interest earnings from the federal Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund, according to documents.”

“As part of its oversight responsibilities for the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, The Treasury Office of the Inspector General has audit work planned on recipients’ compliance with eligible use guidance,” the Office of the Inspector General stated in a letter dated Oct. 7 which was released to the public on Wednesday. “In addition, as part of our oversight work of the Coronavirus Relief Fund established by the CARES Act, we have already sought information from Florida about appropriate use of that fund.”

“We will review the allowability of use of [State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund] funds related to immigration generally, and will specifically confirm whether interest earned on SLFRF funds was utilized by Florida related to immigration activities, and if so, what conditions and limitations apply to such use,” the inspector general continued in the letter.

The inspector general, which is a position currently vacant, reports to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and provides independent reports on the department.

What this really comes down to is the Biden administration hates DeSantis with a passion. And why wouldn’t they? The Florida Republican has boldly asserted his authority and refused to allow the federal government to overstep its bounds and interfere in his state in matters forbidden by the 10th Amendment of the Constitution. This was done on a regular basis during the COVID pandemic.

And then he took on woke corporations like Disney and PayPal after they fought tooth and nail against his parental rights in education legislation. And won. He proved that conservatives have not only the moral high ground, but the legal one too, if we only push for the enforcement of the Constitution.

This has put a target on his back. Biden can be a rather vindictive individual and he’s trying to knock DeSantis down a few pegs. I don’t think this is going to go the way he thinks it’s going to go. In fact, at the end of the day, it’s probably going to make DeSantis more popular.

I foresee a time in the future when DeSantis will likely sit in the White House. I’m not saying that’s going to be 2024. But you can pretty much see the writing on the wall here.
