BREAKING: Alleged J6 Pipe Bomber’s Identity Revealed
Federal agents finally snagged a suspect tied to the pipe bombs planted outside the Republican and Democratic national headquarters in Washington on Jan. 5, 2021, a case that has frustrated investigators for nearly half a decade.
Brian Cole, reportedly from Virginia, was identified as the man now in custody, according to two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the arrest. A federal law enforcement official said the takedown happened Thursday morning, with the Justice Department set to roll out the details at a news conference later in the day.
The devices were discovered near the RNC and DNC buildings the day before protesters surged toward the Capitol. Surveillance footage released by the FBI showed the masked suspect moving through the neighborhood and placing the bombs, which investigators say were capable of causing serious injuries or deaths.

The bureau has spent years blasting out appeals for help, even releasing additional video in January and hiking the reward for information from $100,000 to $500,000. Agents said the suspect appeared to be about 5 feet 7 and was wearing Nike Air Max Speed Turf sneakers with a gold logo.
Despite more than 1,000 interviews and tens of thousands of video files reviewed, critics on Capitol Hill slammed the lack of progress in the case. The long delay fueled a wave of conspiracy theories, including claims that the government framed Trump supporters. Last month, the FBI knocked down another theory suggesting a former Capitol Police officer was behind the plot.
The bombs were found roughly 15 hours after they were planted. Trump, who pardoned Jan. 6 rioters on his first day back in office this year, did not extend that leniency to the person who left the devices outside the RNC and DNC.
