BREAKING: Dems Launch Impeachment Push Against Top Trump Official

A Michigan Democrat is taking a swing at Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., filing long-shot impeachment papers in a Republican-controlled Congress.

“RFK Jr. has turned his back on science and the safety of the American people,” Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., said in a statement posted to X as she announced the articles.

With Republicans running both the House and Senate, the move is almost certain to go nowhere, serving more as a political shot at a polarizing Cabinet member than a serious threat to his job. Kennedy, who assumed the HHS post in February, has infuriated public-health insiders for targeting the bureaucracy they spent years building.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which sits under HHS, axed 600 employees in August. Last month, the White House ousted CDC Director Dr. Susan Monarez and installed Kennedy’s deputy, Jim O’Neill, triggering howls from health officials and lawmakers who liked the status quo.

Kennedy, a longtime skeptic of vaccine mandates who once ran an anti-vaccine group, also cut $500 million in funding for mRNA vaccines, enraging the public health establishment that championed those shots during the pandemic. In September, he was hauled before the Senate Finance Committee to explain his policy shake-ups.

Trump, however, has praised his health secretary’s break from Beltway orthodoxy. After the hearing, the president called Kennedy “a very good person” who “means very well” and is a “different” thinker.

“It’s not your standard talk. I would say that, and that has to do with medical and vaccines,” Trump said. “But if you look at what’s going on in the world with health, and look at this country also with regard to health—I like the fact that he’s different.”

Stevens is not the only Democrat trying to use impeachment as a political weapon. Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, told colleagues Monday he was “moving to bring impeachment again” against Trump, saying the reasons would become clear when his latest articles are filed, but hinting it’s partly because the president “doesn’t respect the separation of powers” by criticizing House members who cross him.

Green has already tried this once before, introducing impeachment articles in May that claimed Trump was “unfit to be president.”

Stevens previewed her Kennedy gambit in September and doubled down in her new statement. “RFK Jr. is making our country less safe and making healthcare less affordable and accessible for Michiganders. His contempt for science, the constant spreading of conspiracy theories, and his complete disregard for the thousands of research hours spent by America’s top doctors and experts is unprecedented, reckless, and dangerous. Enough is enough – we need leaders who put science over chaos, facts over lies, and people over politics, which is why I am announcing today that I have begun drafting articles of impeachment against Secretary Kennedy.”

HHS and Stevens’ office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
