BREAKING: DeSantis Announces Marco Rubio’s Senate Replacement

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis named a powerful Florida Republican to the U.S. Senate on Thursday, honoring a wish by President-elect Donald Trump to select a fighter loyal to the MAGA cause who will succeed Marco Rubio with vigor.

With a deep bench of talent, Florida Republicans weren’t limited in the options DeSantis could choose to carry out a conservative vision in Washington, D.C. However, Matt Gaetz’s departure from Washington left Trump allies eyeing alternatives for the post, which Rubio gave up in November after Trump nominated him for secretary of state. A thorough vetting has elevated Ashley Moody, the combative state attorney general who will take his place.

“We as Republicans cannot squander this opportunity, and that means we need a Congress, both the House and the Senate, that will rise to the occasion and make history. No more business as usual in Washington, D.C.,” DeSantis said at a press conference Thursday morning announcing Moody’s selection.

“That is why today I’m proud to announce that I am selecting our attorney general, Ashley Moody, to serve as our next U.S. senator. She’s honorably served our people over these last six years,” he added.

Moody, 49, was elected to attorney general in 2018 after rising to the role of a circuit court judge at just 31 years old. She has supported the DeSantis administration in court, pursuing “woke” corporate policies that both believe run contrary to the business-friendly ethos of the Sunshine State.

“She championed initiatives for at-risk children and expanded access to legal representation for vulnerable Floridians,” the governor added about her time in the courts. “I’m happy to say we’ve had an attorney general who has been somebody who has acted time and time again to support the values that we all share, whether that’s illegal immigration, the fentanyl crisis, human trafficking… she has stood again, time and time again.”

“I will bring the same persistence, passion, and tenacity as a United States senator that I have brought as Florida’s attorney general,” said Moody in accepting the appointment.
