DHS Sec. Kristi Noem Hospitalized In D.C. After Allergic Reaction
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Washington, DC, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
The nature of the emergency is currently unknown, though Noem has been conscious at the hospital and has spoken with her security detail, one of the sources told the outlet.
A DHS spokesperson announced shortly after 5:42 p.m. that the secretary suffered an allergic reaction. “Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction today. She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is alert and recovering,” the spokesperson told NewsNation correspondent Kellie Meyer.
CNN observed several Secret Service agents posted at several entrances outside the emergency room at the hospital where the secretary was admitted.
The incident occurred a little under an hour after President Trump concluded a National Security Council Meeting to discuss the possibility of U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. It is currently unclear whether Secretary Noem was at the meeting.

Noem, 53, who previously served as the governor of South Dakota and represented the state in Congress, was tapped to serve as President Donald Trump’s Homeland Security secretary just days after he was elected for a second term. She has emerged as one of the most consequential cabinet members in the administration as she oversees the president’s sweeping crackdown on illegal immigration.
