BREAKING: DOJ Launches Grand Jury Probe Into Letitia James

The U.S. Justice Department has opened a grand jury investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James, setting up a reprisal against the prosecutor who, ironically, is charged with similar crimes to those she pursued against President Donald Trump.

The investigation, which is being conducted out of Albany, zeroes in on possible deprivation of rights allegations against the Democrat, who has held office since 2019.

Two well-placed sources told Fox News that James’s office received subpoenas for documents this week, signaling that the search has begun for evidence of how James may have used her powerful perch to unfairly prosecute one or more defendants. That defendant may have been Trump, according to records being sought.

Some of the documents sought relate to her 2022 prosecution of President Trump on mortgage fraud. The case resulted in a mountainous judgment against the president — just shy of half a billion dollars — after James argued the Trump Organization illegally inflated the value of its real estate assets.

James, who won office in part by running on a pledge to “get” Trump, immediately began investigating his company’s New York portfolio. She disputed the Trump Organization’s claim that any mistakes in the valuation of its assets were a “victimless crime.”

“If average New Yorkers went into a bank and submitted false documents, the government would throw the book at them, and the same should be true for former presidents,” James said in 2022.

James has chased the spotlight in myriad other ways. She sued Trump multiple times during his first term and resumed the fight with vigor since he took office in January. Her suits have tried to block his unfreezing of federal student loan payments, restrictions on transgender care for minors, and the gutting of federally funded social welfare programs, according to Fox News.

However, her efforts hit a snag earlier this year when federal mortgage authorities referred her for criminal prosecution on the basis of documents where she appeared to misrepresent her residence in order to obtain more favorable terms.

James has also received a grand jury subpoena related to her alleged mortgage fraud, Fox reported. She has denied the allegation.

Trump gleefully harangued his nemesis as a “total crook” on social media after news of her alleged crime.

“Letitia James, a totally corrupt politician, should resign from her position as New York State Attorney General, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump wrote.
