BREAKING: First Source Comes Forward To Claim Biden Is Officially Stepping Down

Multiple Democratic sources have reported that President Joe Biden may step down as the Democratic nominee as soon as this weekend. This comes after a period of speculation regarding Biden’s capability to continue his presidential bid, fueled by concerns over his age and recent political pressures.

Mark Halperin broke the news on Newsmax, saying, “This is happening all of a sudden. Everyone said it would happen gradually and then all at once, and that’s what’s happening. According to my sources, President Biden has agreed to step down as a Democratic nominee. It will happen as early as this weekend. A speech has been drafted for him. He will continue on as president, is his intention.”

“He also will not, I’m told, endorse Vice President Harris as his successor. They’re hoping that he will endorse an open process in which the convention will be open to Vice President Harris and a few other candidates in Chicago to pick the Democratic nominee for president,” Halperin added. The sources suggested that Harris is already considering potential running mates, including Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

The list of potential candidates doesn’t end there. California Governor Gavin Newsom and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer are also mentioned as possible contenders, alongside Harris. The process outlined by Halperin includes a first ballot where regular delegates would vote, and if no winner emerges, superdelegates would vote in subsequent ballots.

The decision seems to have been influenced by high-level pressure from prominent Democratic figures such as Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and former President Barack Obama, as well as a consensus among Biden’s top aides that there was no viable path forward for his campaign.

The fallout from Biden’s problematic performance at the June 27 debate initially sent ripples through the Democratic Party, prompting donors, activists, and officials to seek guidance from a cadre of seasoned political leaders.

“Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know,” Obama wrote on X after Biden’s poor debate performance in June. “Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November.”

Axios reported earlier on Thursday, however, that a decision by the embattled president could as soon as this weekend, according to insiders who asked for confidentiality to discuss private conversations. Co-founders Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen, titans of the Washington, D.C. political class with extensive contacts, wrote that growing pressure from top Democrats might finally have become too great to brush aside.

The imminent about-face will likely be made not long after Biden recovers from a bout of Covid. He remains in isolation and without a public schedule, forcing him to be alone with his thoughts as he contemplates just how badly Election Day could go for his party if he refuses to step aside. The pressure campaign reached intolerable levels after Democrats said they fully expect post-shooting polls to show that sympathy for former President Donald Trump has been converted into a sizable lead.
