BREAKING: GOP Rep. Unleashes Resolution Dems Can’t Ignore After LA Riots

As unrest continues in Los Angeles following recent ICE enforcement actions, Republican Congresswoman Young Kim (CA-40) has introduced a resolution condemning the violence and calling for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to take a stand.

The resolution, introduced Tuesday, denounces the recent riots that followed a series of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in the Los Angeles area. Federal officials have stated that the operation targeted individuals with prior convictions, including violent offenses such as murder and sexual assault.

Kim, a Korean-American Republican representing parts of Southern California, is urging her Democratic colleagues to go beyond public statements and formally vote to condemn the violence.

Protests broke out across the city after reports of ICE raids in areas known for immigrant communities. Some demonstrations escalated into confrontations with law enforcement, property damage, and injuries. Authorities have confirmed arrests and incidents of arson, including the burning of several vehicles. The situation prompted the deployment of National Guard troops by the Trump administration, marking the first federal military presence in LA in decades without state approval.

While some Democrats, including Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA), have issued general condemnations of violence, they have not publicly indicated whether they will support Kim’s resolution. Others, such as Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), have suggested the protests have remained largely peaceful—comments that have drawn criticism from Republicans.

“Anyone who is lawless or loots or commits a crime should be punished — that is the House Democratic Caucus position,” Democratic California Rep. Pete Aguilar, the House Democratic Caucus chair, said to the Daily Caller.

“They better vote [yes] on this one and show their support,” Kim explained. “Don’t just say it — follow your rhetoric with actions by supporting this resolution.”

“I wanted to send a strong message that we are there to support the work that they [law enforcement] are doing as they continue to fight to contain the situation,” she continued. “At the same time, the core message of the resolution is to condemn the violence, the chaos that we see as the rioters continue to be more violent.”

The resolution also takes aim at state and local leaders, including Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass, accusing them of failing to respond decisively to the unrest. Republican supporters argue that sanctuary policies have contributed to the situation by limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Kim noted that the situation had already spiraled out of control before the deployment of National Guard troops. “Before the National Guard [troops] were called in there, the situation was already escalated, escalated to the level that we’re seeing,” she said, addressing the president’s decision to respond to the unrest. “I’m glad there was a decisive leadership from the administration to send the guards, and I’m glad they did it sooner than later.”

“These individuals, many of them, had already deportation orders issued against them … they should just cooperate with federal agents — ICE agents — and the situation would not have escalated to the level,” she added. “Their [ICE’s] job is to go after those individuals … who are here illegally and those who have criminal records, those who are supposed to be deported. That’s what we’re going after.”

The resolution has garnered support from the full California Republican delegation in the House.
