BREAKING: ICE Agents Shot At In Ambush Attack, Suspects At-Large

A group of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents were shot at while conducting immigration enforcement operations in Chicago in what appears to have been a coordinated attack, the Department of Homeland Security announced Saturday.

According to a statement from DHS, agents were conducting operations near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue when an unidentified male driving a black jeep fired shots at agents before fleeing the scene. An “unknown number of agitators” also threw a paint can and bricks at federal vehicles.

The Chicago Police Department was then called for assistance and helped with clearing the scene. As of this report, both the shooter and vehicle remain at large in what DHS referred to as a “dynamic situation.”

Footage obtained from the scene shows a large police presence in the area with a helicopter overhead. Border Patrol Commander at Large Greg Bovino, who is overseeing the administration’s “Operation Midway Blitz” enforcement operations, was personally on scene to assess the situation.

A large group of agitators — many of whom were speaking Spanish — were seen tossing objects at Bovino and a group of agents as they attempted to clear the scene.

“This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of violence and obstruction. Over the past two months, we’ve seen an increase in assaults and obstruction targeting federal law enforcement during operations,” DHS posted on X. “These confrontations highlight the dangers our agents face daily and the escalating aggression toward law enforcement. The violence must end.”

The latest incident comes just weeks after federal agents were “boxed in” by multiple vehicles and at least one armed assailant while conducting immigration enforcement operations in Chicago. Agents have come under sustained assault in the city, particularly in the area surrounding a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in the community of Broadview, for several weeks.

The seemingly coordinated nature of the attack also falls in line with a worrying trend of organized leftist violence targeting federal agents.  Over the July 4 holiday weekend, a police officer was shot in the neck in the community of Alvarado, Texas after a large group of Antifa-linked militants set up an ambush attack outside an ICE facility. One group of militants created a distraction outside by vandalizing vehicles and tossing fireworks in an effort to draw agents outside, while another group of militants was waiting in a wooded area with semiautomatic rifles.

A total of 11 individuals are facing charges in connection with the ambush attack.
