BREAKING: Injuries Reported After Plane Collision At NYC’s LaGuardia Airport
Injuries have been reported after an Air Canada flight reportedly collided with a vehicle on the runway of New York City’s LaGuardia International Airport late Sunday night.
According to preliminary reports, the incident involved Air Canada Express Flight AC8646, a Bombardier CRJ-900LR aircraft operated by Jazz Aviation. The flight had arrived from Montreal-Trudeau International Airport on a scheduled short-haul service carrying approximately 76 passengers in a two-class configuration, along with crew, for a total of roughly 80 to 85 people on board.
Flight-tracking data referenced in the reports indicated that the aircraft was taxiing after landing and was reportedly attempting to cross Runway 04/22 near Runway 4 when the collision with a Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) Air Crash Rescue truck occurred on an adjacent taxiway.
Video footage of the incident posted to X showed the plane positioned upwards on its back wheels with extensive damage to the front of the aircraft, including the cockpit. Additional images showed emergency response activity, including a second alarm transmitted for the incident and mass casualty incident protocols activated, according to scanner traffic.
No official tallies of injuries, fatalities, or the condition of those involved have been released as of this report. Passengers were seen being evacuated onto the tarmac following the event.
The New York Post reported that four firefighters were injured when the aircraft collided with a firetruck they were riding in.
