A Secret Service agent assigned to former first lady Jill Biden’s protective detail shot and injured himself in the leg Friday at Philadelphia International Airport, according to a report.

The incident happened as the agent was escorting Biden through the busy travel hub, KYW Newsradio reported. Philadelphia police and other agencies responded to the scene, and a medic unit was spotted leaving the area shortly afterward.

A Secret Service spokesperson told the outlet, “We are gathering the facts and will have a statement shortly.”

Details remain limited, including what led to the discharge and whether the shooting was accidental. The agent’s condition beyond the reported leg injury was not immediately clear.

The incident set off a rapid law enforcement response inside the airport, where travelers reported an increased police presence while authorities worked to secure the area and assess what happened. No other injuries were reported in the initial accounts.

Jill Biden, the wife of former President Joe Biden, has continued to receive Secret Service protection. The agency has not publicly released further information as of Friday, beyond indicating it was working to establish the facts.
