BREAKING: Joe Biden Announces Major Update As ‘Debilitating’ Cancer Spreads

Joe Biden revealed Tuesday that radiation treatment for his prostate cancer “worked as intended,” weeks after son Hunter Biden described his father’s battle with the disease as painful and debilitating.

The 83-year-old former president broke his silence on his health in a statement marking Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, thanking the medical professionals overseeing his care.

“I am deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who helped to control my cancer and who continue to take such good care of me. Their skill, dedication, and compassion mean so much,” Biden said Tuesday on X.

“The radiation treatment from last fall worked as intended, and I continue to do the things I care about, like finishing my memoir,” he added.

The update comes weeks after Hunter Biden publicly detailed the toll the disease has taken on his father.

During an interview with the BBC last month, Hunter said the cancer had “metastasized into his bones and further” and was “very painful” and “very debilitating in many respects.”

Hunter said he wished his father “would complain more, because it’s not good.”

Biden’s office first disclosed his cancer diagnosis in May 2025, less than four months after he left the White House.

Doctors diagnosed Biden with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones. His office said at the time that the cancer was hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective management.

Biden underwent surgery for skin cancer in September 2025 and began radiation and hormone treatment for prostate cancer the following month.

Former first lady Jill Biden has also spoken publicly about the seriousness of her husband’s condition and the reality that the disease is something he will continue to live with.

“I think if he had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, that’s one thing because that can be cured, but the fact that it metastasized to his bones, that makes it a whole different story,” she said in June.

“So I think Joe will live with cancer till the rest of his life.”

Biden was the oldest man to serve as U.S. president, and questions surrounding his age and health followed him throughout much of his four years in the White House.

Those concerns reached a breaking point during the 2024 presidential campaign following his disastrous June debate against Donald Trump.

Biden ultimately abandoned his reelection bid in July 2024 amid mounting pressure from fellow Democrats, clearing the way for then-Vice President Kamala Harris to take over as the party’s nominee.

Trump went on to defeat Harris in November and returned to the White House in January 2025.

Biden and his former White House advisers have since faced scrutiny over whether the extent of his physical and cognitive decline was concealed from the public while he was in office.

Concerns about Biden’s condition have continued since his cancer diagnosis. Former administration officials and an elected Democrat told The Washington Post earlier this year that the former president at times appeared more fatigued during private interactions while undergoing treatment.

Despite his ongoing battle with metastatic prostate cancer, Biden said Tuesday that he remains active and is working to complete his memoir.
