BREAKING: Lionel Richie Rushed To ICU

Music legend Lionel Richie has been hospitalized in an intensive care unit in St. Louis after experiencing another health scare following a weekend performance.

The 77-year-old singer checked himself into a local hospital after performing Saturday night at The Muny in Forest Park.

Richie was admitted so doctors could conduct additional testing, with sources indicating that the singer and his medical team are being cautious. Doctors are reportedly investigating slight dehydration as a possible explanation for the episode.

The situation became noticeable toward the end of Richie’s Saturday concert. Witnesses told TMZ that the “Hello” singer appeared to be struggling somewhat as the show approached its conclusion. During his final song, “All Night Long,” Richie reportedly asked his team to bring him a chair so he could finish the performance while sitting down.

Richie had actually addressed his recent health problems during the St. Louis concert itself. According to the St. Louis American, the singer told the audience that unexplained problems during his tour had left him concerned.

“Some things have been happening on this tour that kind of shook me up a little bit, because I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on,” Richie told the crowd.

Richie said he returned to his doctor looking for answers and was told that dehydration was the problem. The singer reportedly drank electrolytes throughout Saturday’s performance and even joked with the audience about the taste.

Despite the health concerns, Richie made it through nearly the entire show on his feet before needing to sit during the finale.

The latest hospitalization comes just over two months after Richie suffered another frightening episode while performing in St. Paul, Minnesota.

During the June 24 opening night of his “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, Richie began feeling dizzy while onstage. He eventually performed “Dancing on the Ceiling” while sitting down before telling the audience that he felt strange.

Richie attempted to continue the concert but ultimately left the stage. His saxophonist, Dino Soldo, later returned to inform fans that Richie was not feeling well and would be unable to finish the show.

Paramedics met Richie backstage and transported him to a hospital as a precaution, according to reports at the time. The health scare forced him to postpone scheduled performances in Chicago and Columbus while doctors advised him to rest.

Richie eventually returned to touring and reassured worried fans in early July that he was recovering.

“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love,” Richie wrote at the time. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”

Saturday’s St. Louis performance demonstrated that the health issue has continued to be something Richie is managing while performing.

The singer has spent more than five decades in the music industry, first achieving international fame as a member of the Commodores before launching an enormously successful solo career. His catalog includes classics such as “Hello,” “All Night Long,” “Dancing on the Ceiling” and “Say You, Say Me.” Richie has also served as a judge on “American Idol.”

There is some encouraging news surrounding his latest hospitalization. Sources told TMZ that Richie is hoping to be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.

Richie’s representatives had not publicly commented on the hospitalization as of Monday afternoon.
