BREAKING: Mass Shooting Reported At Florida State University
Florida State University was rocked by violence Thursday afternoon as gunfire erupted near the school’s student union, leaving at least six people hospitalized and prompting a massive law enforcement response that included local police, the FBI, and campus security.
The university’s emergency alert system sent out a chilling message just before noon, warning of an active shooter near the student union building. “Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures,” the alert read. Students and faculty were ordered to shelter in place as police flooded the campus.
By early afternoon, authorities confirmed that one person had been taken into custody. According to a law enforcement official, officers recovered a handgun on the individual, a shotgun in the student union, and another firearm in the suspect’s vehicle, per CNN. The FBI’s Jacksonville field office and local bureau officials were quickly dispatched to assist with the investigation.
Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare confirmed they are “receiving and caring for patients” from the shooting. Hospital officials reported that six people had been admitted—one in critical condition and five others listed in serious condition.
FSU canceled all classes, university business operations, and events for the remainder of the week. Athletic competitions scheduled for the weekend have also been called off.

“An active shooter has been reported in the area of Student Union,” the university posted on X. “Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions. Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures.”
No fatalities have been reported at this time, but officials have not ruled out further developments. Local businesses and nearby schools were also briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspect or reveal a motive. A senior Florida law enforcement source told Fox News that while one person is in custody, it is still unclear if there are additional suspects or accomplices involved.
“I’ve been briefed on the Florida State University, Tallahassee, active shooting,” Trump said Thursday. “I guess it’s an active shooter, fully briefed as to where we are right now. It’s a shame. Horrible thing, horrible that things like this take place, and we’ll have more to say about it later.”
Gunshots were first reported around the student union building shortly before noon. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as students rushed to take cover, with alarms blaring across campus and law enforcement moving in rapidly to secure the area.
“I thought it was the roof collapsing honestly,” one student said. “And then suddenly three girls come running in and one of them was crying. One of the girls looks over at my stall and tells me to call the police because there’s an active shooter.”
She overheard officers saying they were looking for a shotgun and saw what looked like two injured people near the Student Union.
“We saw them when they were still on the grass,” she said. “I think they moved a couple to the pavement.” Law enforcement was everywhere. “It was terrifying,” she said.
This is a developing story…
