BREAKING: Trump Orders Sprawling Probe Into Biden’s Autopen Documents
President Donald Trump has ordered a formal investigation of his predecessor’s use of autopen signatures to sign a number of key documents throughout his tenure, including pardons. In total, the investigation is set to review more than one-million documents signed during the Biden presidency.
Officials familiar with the probe told Fox News that they already are reviewing tens of thousands of documents turned over by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The White House Counsel’s Office is taking the lead on the probe, while the Department of Justice is also assisting.
A senior administration official told the outlet that they are not yet able to discuss findings of the investigation, though NARA has confirmed that more than 27,000 records have already been turned over to investigators.
“Joe Biden was the worst, most incompetent, and senile president in our country’s history,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Tuesday. “It has been widely reported that Joe Biden handed the power of the presidency to an autopen controlled by unelected leftist staffers, who were allowed to make terrible decisions that destroyed our country.”
“The Trump White House is committed to finding the answers to the many outstanding questions the American people still have about how business in the Biden White House was conducted,” she said.
Investigators will be reviewing relevant documents related to Biden’s presidency and use of the autopen over several years in an effort to “bring transparency to the American people regarding the former president’s health,” Fox News reported. In total, the review is expected to cover more than one-million documents from the Biden presidency.
Officials are also working to determine whether the previous White House team had a policy in place to safeguard the use of autopen. “This has been a priority for the administration since the beginning,” another official said. “The president’s signature is one of the most important signatures in the world.”
“Was the autopen inappropriately used?” an official asked. “The White House and DOJ are reviewing documents through NARA and expect to do a deep dive on hundreds of thousands more documents.”
An autopen is an electromechanical device designed to replicate a person’s signature with precision. It can be used by high-ranking officials, including U.S. presidents, to sign large volumes of documents without requiring their direct involvement. While it is legally recognized in certain cases, its use in signing critical legal documents—especially without clear oversight—has prompted questions about authenticity and accountability.
According to a report from the Oversight Project, an arm of the Heritage Foundation, every document bearing Biden’s signature—except for the letter announcing his withdrawal from the 2024 race—appears to have been signed by an autopen. The findings have put a spotlight on Biden’s cognitive state and whether unelected officials were making decisions on his behalf.
Former President Biden issued a number of controversial pardons during his final days in office, many of which were issued preemptively in order to shield a number of high-profile anti-Trump figures from “retaliation.”
Biden issued a series of preemptive pardons for Dr. Anthony Fauci, members of the January 6 Committee and General Mark Milley. The former president claimed that all of these individuals were in danger of “political targeting” from the Trump DOJ, even though all of these individuals have been accused of committing crimes.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has recommended criminal charges against Dr. Anthony Fauci for lying to Congress, while the January 6 Committee has been accused of destroying evidence, coaching witnesses and selectively presenting evidence. Milley committed perhaps the most serious alleged offenses, as the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has bragged about calling the Chinese government in order to undermine Trump’s objectives.
