BREAKING: U.S. Carries Out Strikes On Iranian Nuclear Sites
President Donald Trump announced Saturday that the U.S. had successfully launched strikes on multiple nuclear sites within Iran, ending weeks of speculation over whether the U.S. would formally join Israel’s war against Iran.
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” the president posted on Truth Social. “All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this.”
The president concluded his post by calling for peace, suggesting the strikes are intended to be limited in nature.
In a follow-up post, Trump announced that he would be delivering a White House address to the American people at 10 p.m. Eastern Time. “I will be giving an Address to the Nation at 10:00 P.M., at the White House, regarding our very successful military operation in Iran. This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR. THANK YOU!” the post reads.
Israel had been lobbying for U.S. strikes on the Fordow nuclear site since launching unilateral strikes on Iranian nuclear and military targets a little over two weeks ago. Israel lacked the bunker buster munitions necessary to strike the Fordow uranium enrichment site, which was nestled deep underground in the side of a mountain, and had been requesting assistance.
Footage from the scene appears to indicate that the strikes were successful, as the site is currently engulfed in flames. U.S. defense officials have further described the strikes, which occurred at roughly 2:30 a.m. local time, as “successful” after viewing satellite images.
Iran has vowed to retaliate against U.S. bases within the region in response to any attacks on its nuclear sites. Israel has for the last two weeks been launching strikes at Iranian ballistic missile sites and military aircraft in order to degrade the regime’s attack capabilities.
Israel’s former defense minister Yoav Gallant said the US strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities were a “bold decision” carried out “for all of humanity,” in a post on X. “President Trump took a bold decision for the United States, for Israel, for all of humanity. The world is now a safer place,” he said.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Jim Risch (R-ID) praised President Trump’s decision to launch the strikes and stated that American ground troops will not be deployed to Iran.
“This war is Israel’s war not our war, but Israel is one of our strongest allies and is disarming Iran for the good of the world. I’ve also always said that Israel would not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon,” he said. “For Israel this is existential. The Iranians literally want to wipe Israel and all Jews off the face of the earth. This strike will put an end to those ambitions.”
