BREAKING: U.S. Received Intel On Iranian Plot To Assassinate Trump WEEKS Ago
Three days have passed since the dramatic attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump rocked the nation. Eyewitnesses from the crowd reported spotting the gunman on the rooftop of an adjacent building minutes before he opened fire, and authorities are still piecing together the puzzle while searching for the motive behind the assassination attempt.
In a chilling twist revealed today, US authorities received intelligence weeks prior from a source about a potential plot orchestrated by Iran to target Trump, according to CNN. This information prompted the Secret Service to significantly bolster security measures surrounding the former president, according to several officials familiar with the situation. As the investigation unfolds, the quest for answers continues.
However, sources say there is no evidence to suggest that Thomas Matthew Crooks, who attempted to assassinate the former president last Saturday, was linked to any broader plot. Secret Service officials consistently advised the Trump campaign against the risks of outdoor rallies, which are harder to secure compared to more controlled indoor events, according to people familiar with the discussions. These warnings have generally been broad in nature, the sources added.
Due to security concerns, the campaign, at one point this election cycle, stopped organizing impromptu off-the-record events where attendees were not pre-screened by the Secret Service, a source told CNN. The FBI, leading the investigation into the shooting has not issued any comments.
“We do not comment on President Trump’s security detail. All questions should be directed to The United States Secret Service,” the Trump campaign said in a statement.
Warnings regarding operational planning have coincided with an uptick in online posts from Iranian accounts and state-backed media referencing Trump, heightening security concerns among US officials, a source informed CNN.
According to a federal law enforcement source and someone close to Mike Pompeo, the former Secretary of State was also a target in an Iranian assassination plot. There has been ongoing concern among law enforcement officials about Iran’s potential threats against former officials from the Trump administration, including the former president himself, sources familiar with the situation reported.
Recent intelligence has indicated a notable increase in these threats. There has been a significant rise in online activity from Iranian accounts and state-backed media that mention Trump, escalating security concerns, a source disclosed to CNN.
Iran in the past had escalated its threats against Trump and key members of his team, vowing payback for the 2020 elimination of their top general, Qassem Soleimani. The U.S. carried out a drone strike that killed Soleimani, who was a pivotal figure in Iran’s military strategy in the Middle East. His death was a significant blow to Iran. The threats against Trump were vocalized through various Iranian officials and state-controlled media, framing them as a form of justice or retaliation for his actions against Iran, particularly the killing of Soleimani.
News of a threat from a hostile foreign intelligence agency and increased security measures for Trump have catalyzed concerns about security failures at the Saturday rally. Questions continue to emerge about how a relatively recent high school graduate gained access to a nearby rooftop and fired shots that wounded the former president.
