British Royal Suffering From Memory Loss After Horse Accident

Following an incident involving one of her beloved horses, the Princess Royal is currently hospitalized at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. The 73-year-old Princess Anne sustained head injuries and a concussion while walking on her Gloucestershire estate, Gatcombe Park, and was admitted for a second night on Monday.

Details of the accident remain unclear due to her concussion, but her medical team noted that the injuries appeared consistent with an impact from a horse’s head or legs. Despite this, the Princess was conscious by Monday, and her memory loss, which pertains only to the incident, is thought likely to be temporary, as reported by The Telegraph.

She was initially treated at the scene, and although an air ambulance was called, she was transported by road to Southmead, the largest hospital in the South West. The facility is notable for its specialist neuroscience unit and serves as the only adult major trauma center in the Severn Major Trauma Network. A former Olympian equestrian, the Princess is no stranger to equine-related activities, which makes the accident all the more affecting.

Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, the husband of Princess Anne, stopped by the hospital on Tuesday, following her second overnight stay. He shared a positive update with those concerned about her condition. “She is recovering well, thank you. We are both profoundly grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their expert care — and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene,” he explained.

He continued, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support: “We are both deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people near and far. It means a great deal.”
