If you’ve been keeping up with the drama surrounding the takeover of Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk, then you’re likely aware there has been a bunch of extreme leftist crybabies who have been wailing and gnashing their teeth, claiming that they are now going to leave the platform for good. Because apparently they hate the idea of being able to speak their minds freely or something. So they are self-censoring. Way to stick it to the man, guys. You really showed us.
According to Fox News, the latest individual to join in on the supposed mass exodus of Twitter is the attorney of a major California city who said her office will no longer be using the platform due its “troubling direction.”
San Diego City Attorney Mara W. Elliott stated in a post published on Twitter Tuesday morning that “Twitter is moving in a troubling direction – one that promotes hatred, violence, bullying, and false information.”

“It is not a forum where users can feel respected or safe. We deserve better,” Elliott’s post read. “For that reason, my office will no longer communicate using Twitter.”
“Elliott said her office would henceforth be using Instagram for news releases, media interactions, and publicly issued legal opinions. FOX Business has reached out to Elliott’s office for comment. While not mentioning Elon Musk by name, Elliott’s tweet comes after the billionaire closed a $44 billion deal to acquire the company,” Fox News reported.
Musk taking over the platform has led many Democrats and progressives to lose their minds thinking that the billionaire’s control of the company is going to lead to it transforming into a far-right pool of misinformation, racism, and cyberbullying. Because the mainstream media has filled their heads with narratives that have painted conservatives up to be these things for years now so they just blindly believe it without even bothering to find out if what they are hearing is true.
It’s not, by the way.
Both sides of the spectrum have crazy people in them, but that doesn’t mean every single person who ascribes to that particular political philosophy is like that.
“Musk’s stated goal in purchasing Twitter was to protect the freedom of speech, saying in a statement last week that a public square open to diverse opinions is necessary for democracy to thrive,” the report noted.
Free speech is absolutely essential for any republic that is run by the will of the people to survive. New ideas will come and go throughout the lifespan of a culture. The people belonging to that culture need the freedom to set their ideas down on the intellectual battlefield and let them duke it out. The truth will always emerge victorious.
And then a society progresses. Moves forward. The process will then start again. Free speech is what enables forward movement. Without it, there is no progress. We stagnate. Stagnation is death for a society. It’s ironic the left wants so desperately to silence the opposition, all the while calling themselves progressives, despite the fact the tactics they are employing lead to anything but progress.
