CBS Reporter Says Trump Supporters Gave Him PTSD: ‘They Were Coming For Us’
CBS News correspondent Scott MacFarlane, who is most widely known for his hyperbolic coverage of the years-long January 6 Capitol protests crackdown, recently announced that he was diagnosed with PTSD following the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania last July.
While speaking with former “Meet The Press” host Chuck Todd on his “Chuck TODDcast” show, MacFarlane revealed that his diagnosis did not stem from the gunfire that wounded President Trump and killed retired firefighter Corey Comperatore, but from the crowd’s reaction.
“For those of us there, it was such a horror because you saw an emerging America. And it wasn’t the shooting, Chuck. I got diagnosed with PTSD within 48 hours,” the CBS correspondent said. “I got put on trauma leave, not because I think of the shooting, but because you could, you saw it in the eyes, the reaction of the people. They were coming for us,” he added.
Todd seemed to agree with MacFarlane’s description as he said “I know” while nodding along. “If he didn’t jump up with his fist, they were going to come kill us,” MacFarlane said.
The clip has been met with widespread ridicule on social media, with many commentators mocking MacFarlane’s bizarre assertions and others pointing out the “disrespect” in making the event in which a man was murdered about himself.
“There have always been pathetic weaklings like Scott MacFarlane in the world. But they at least used to have the decency to be ashamed of themselves for it,” Daily Wire contributor Matt Walsh posted on X. “Now they stand up and proudly declare, ‘Hey everyone, I’m a pathetic weakling!’ It’s bizarre.”
Jeff Clark, the acting Trump OIRA administrator who was targeted by lawfare under the Biden presidency, described MacFarlane as the “biggest crybaby” he has ever heard of. “He got PTSD after the Butler PA assassination attempt on Donald Trump, because people in the crowd gave him some stray dirty looks?!! Give me a break,” Clark wrote.
“Grow a pair, Scott. Instead, try on for size the mainstream media trying to constantly destroy you — as they did to me — for four years and counting, getting death threats, having people come to your house, receiving threatening letters and voicemails, having to fear for the safety of your family,” he continued. “If Scott MacFarlane had to deal with that, he would be in a white jacket in a padded room, it seems — even to this day. And Lord knows what shape Scott would be in if he were treated like [Peter Navarro].”
MacFarlane is best known for his breathless coverage of the Biden Administration’s criminal cases against President Trump and the January 6 prosecutions. He was frequently on-hand to provide national media coverage of what amounted to trespassing violations for January 6 defendants and oftentimes issued glowing reviews of the Biden DOJ’s ruthless prosecutions.
“I gave MacFarlane the stink eye every time I saw him in DC courthouse. Hope he spent lots of money on therapy over it,” justice reporter Julie Kelly posted on X.
“This hack did nothing for 4 years except stalk J6ers at trial and outside the courthouse to torment them and feed daily J6 ‘insurrection’ propaganda,” she added. “Typical cry bully.”
