Donations For Trump Rally Victims Pour In From Celebrities, Supporters
Donations are pouring in for victims of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump that killed retired firefighter Corey Comperatore — who died shielding his family from gunfire — and wounded several others, two of them critically.
A GoFundMe campaign for victims of the Butler, Pennsylvania was organized by a friend of the Comperatore family has already raced past its goal of $1,000,000 raised just hours after going live. As of this report, the fund has received more than $1,600,000 in donations.
A number of sizable donations have been made by celebrities and high-profile political figures, including Kid Rock, Vivek Ramaswamy, Ben Shapiro and others.
“President Donald Trump has authorized this account as a place for donations to the supporters and families wounded or killed in today’s brutal and horrific assassination attempt. All donations will be directed to these proud Americans as they grieve and recover. May God bless and unite our nation,” reads a description for the GoFundMe campaign.
A separate GoFundMe link was created for the Comperatore family. Corey Comperatore, a retired firefighter from Buffalo Township, Pennsylvania, died while shielding his wife and daughter from gunfire.
Comperatore’s daughter, Allyson, also paid tribute to her father in a touching Facebook post. “He was the best dad a girl could ever ask for. My sister and I never needed for anything. You call, he would answer, and he would do whatever it is you needed, and if he didn’t know you, he would figure out how,” she wrote.
“The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero. They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came for us. And I want nothing more than to cry on him and tell him thank you,” Allyson wrote in a heartbreaking Facebook post.
The GoFundMe was launched in order to support Allyson Comperatore and her family. “Saturday night, our friend and family, Allyson, lost her father due to a senseless, tragic act at the Trump Rally in Butler. Allyson has been an athlete with us since the beginning. She’s a huge part of our community. If you’re able to support her and her family during this time, we will have a spot for donations at the gym. Additionally, please take the time to sign the cards at the desk,” reads a description for the campaign.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Comperatore family. ♥️”
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Comperatore.
