JUST IN: Colorado GOP Will Withdraw From Primary, Convert To Caucus System If Trump Ballot Decision Stands

In response to Tuesday’s unprecedented Colorado Supreme Court decision to bar former President Donald Trump from the ballot in 2024, the Colorado Republican Party has vowed to withdraw from the state’s primary and convert to a pure caucus system if the ruling is allowed to stand.

Shortly after the unprecedented decision was announced, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said he would be withdrawing from the state’s primary if the decision is allowed to stand. ““Having tried every trick in the book to eliminate President Trump from running in this election, the bipartisan Establishment is now deploying a new tactic to bar him from ever holding office again: the 14th Amendment,” Ramaswamy wrote in an X post.

“I pledge to *withdraw* from the Colorado GOP primary unless Trump is also allowed to be on the state’s ballot, and I demand that Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Nikki Haley to do the same immediately – or else they are tacitly endorsing this illegal maneuver which will have disastrous consequences for our country,” he continued.

In response to Ramaswamy’s declaration, the Colorado Republican Party said that he wouldn’t even need to boycott the primary because it will not be happening.

“You won’t have to because we will withdraw from the Primary as a Party and convert to a pure caucus system if this is allowed to stand,” the party announced in a statement.

The unprecedented decision was granted following an abundance of ballot access lawsuits that have been brought forward in a number of states, citing section III of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Civil War-era statute was designed to bar ex-confederates from holding federal office, though former President Trump has not been charged with, much less convicted of, inciting an “insurrection” on January 6, 2021.

Trump’s legal team has vowed to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In response to the Colorado Republican Party’s decision to withdraw from the primary, a number of X users stated that they were switching their party registration. “I’m changing my voter registration from Independent to Republican. As a veteran, I swore to help protect America against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” wrote one X user.

“I just changed my voter registration from libertarian affiliated to Republican affiliated,” said another.
