WATCH: Helen Comperatore Demands Accountability From Secret Service In Heartbreaking Interview

Helen Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore, who was killed when a gunman attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last year, called for accountability from the Secret Service in a somber interview given one year after her husband’s murder.

“We were all sitting ducks that day. Our blood is all over their hands. I am angry. I lost the love of my life. They screwed up,” Helen Comperatore told Fox News.

The Secret Service has admitted to a number of security failures in the days leading up to the shooting, as well as the day of. A new report from the Government Office of Accountability concluded that credible intelligence regarding a threat to the president’s life was not communicated to Trump’s protective detail, a move that prevented numerous security measures from being implemented that otherwise would have been.

The agency also ignored requests for additional security from local law enforcement, refused to provide relevant technology because it was diverted to protect then-First Lady Jill Biden, and more.

“Why Butler? Why was that such a failure? Why weren’t they paying attention? Why did they think that that roof didn’t need covered? I want to sit down and talk to them. I have the right to. They need to listen to me,” Comperatore said.

According to the official investigation, deceased gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks planned the attack for weeks. He was ultimately able to squeeze off two volleys — the second of which killed Corey Comperatore — when he opened fire from an uncovered rooftop. Crooks managed to crawl across the length of the rooftop, with his rifle in-hand, without being noticed by counter-snipers.

Earlier in the day, a Secret Service agent snapped a photo of Crooks due to his suspicious demeanor and activity, though agents ultimately lost sight of him.

Speaking on the one year anniversary of her husband’s death — outside Corey’s former firehouse — Comperatore and her two daughters reflected on the tragic day in a heartbreaking interview.

I’m really right at the beginning where I was back a year ago. You know, we really haven’t healed that much. You know, we have no answers. So, you know, I miss them just like I did last year,” she said. “I want to sit down with the Secret Service, and I want them to tell me everything that happened that day. I want to know why they failed. I want to know what happened.”

President Donald Trump has stated that a comprehensive report on the assassination attempt, and the events leading up to it, will be made public in the near future.
