Country Star’s Mother Stabbed To Death In Home Invasion

A heartbreaking tragedy occurred over the weekend when the mother of country music up-and-comer Spencer Hatcher was stabbed to death during a home invasion.

Holly Hatcher, 62, was sound asleep when 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker broke into her Virginia homestead shortly after midnight, murdering her in cold blood. Her husband, Michael Hatcher, 65, was seriously injured in the attack, which occurred on Aug. 3.

Michael Hatcher managed to shoot Walker dead with a handgun from his vehicle as the burglar attempted to flee.

“This is a highly unusual, apparently completely random [attack] with an individual with no known history of violent behavior of any kind, or even criminal behavior of any kind,” Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said at a press conference.

Authorities traced the whereabouts of Walker, who two days prior had rented a campsite at Endless Caverns in New Market, Va. and bought a large knife at a nearby Walmart, Hutcheson stated.

Walker, a native of Pikesville, Maryland, left behind an abandoned vehicle discovered at the campsite one day before the gruesome killing of Spencer Hatcher’s mother. Police say Walker rammed his vehicle into a nearby store but was not inside his car when officers arrived.

In response, police officers deployed drones and K-9 units to scour the surrounding woods in search of Walker, but to no avail.

“There was no indication of any violence or potential for any violence from the offender that the Virginia State Police became aware of throughout that investigation,” Hutcheson said at the press conference.

First responders arrived on scene to discover Michael Hatcher in a pool of blood and suffering large knife wounds, while the killer lied dead in their driveway.

Holly Hatcher was discovered dead inside the house with fatal stab wounds, according to the NY Post.

“There’s going to be questions that will never be answered, but all I can tell you is we’ve cried, we’ve hurt, and we’ve hugged, and we have found more love than we have ever known has existed between us, and between you,” Michael Hatcher said in a visibly emotional statement.

Spencer Hatcher, who stood next to his father at the press conference, later announced on social media that he would be canceling several upcoming concerts.

“It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that — due to a monumental loss in our family — I must cancel my upcoming shows at VOA Country Music Fest in Butler County, OH (8/8) and at Rockingham County Fair in Harrisonburg, VA (8/11 & 8/12),” he said in the Instagram post.

Authorities are still searching for Walker’s motive.

“She poured her heart into her work, positively impacting countless students and colleagues. Her loss is deeply felt by the entire Rockingham County Public Schools (RCPS) family,” a tribute to Holly Hatcher on Facebook read.
