‘CREEP’: Former NBC Executive Attacks Barron Trump, Immediately Regrets It

A former top dog at NBC took heat Wednesday morning after an early-morning post declaring Barron Trump “fair game” now that he has turned 18.

Mike Sington, who left NBC as Director of Operations in 2016 according to his LinkedIn profile, hastily deleted a tweet he sent at 4:44 a.m. which read “Barron Trump turns 18 today. He’s fair game now” after being labeled a creep by both the right and the left for keeping an eye on the until-now underage former first son.

“He hasn’t bothered anyone and has never gotten involved in politics or made a public statement. He deserves to be left alone. All children of candidates who don’t put themselves out there should be left alone,” wrote Huffington Post reporter Yashar Ali, adding a screenshot of Sington’s erased post.

Conservative White House reporter and former Eric Greitans flak Anthony Hughes called Sington a “creep” for “want[ing] to date Barron Trump!”

Followers of both men’s accounts and others weighed in, calling highly inappropriate to target the young man, who has shied from the spotlight, on his first adult birthday.

“[T]his is what your media thinks, it is how they work. These are the kind of people you are supposed to trust with telling you the truth. Nice work @NBCUniversal,” another wrote.

Another user revived a reply Sington sent to a troll in 2022 in which he asked the account, “I am? I thought I was a groomer and pedophile.”

“Really creepy that he’s been sitting around just waiting for the kid’s birthday so he could post that. Very weird that he even knows when his birthday is,” wrote another.

Others came to Barron’s defense, saying the young man is thoughtful, hardworking, and courteous to classmates at his Florida prep school.

“My friend’s daughter goes to school with him and says he’s a really nice and thoughtful young man,” Deb Robinson wrote in response to Ali’s take.

Barron, who is in the middle of college acceptance season, has kept a low profile during his father’s 2024 campaign, leaving his mother Melania Trump to stump with the Republican leader. Sources close to the family told PEOPLE Magazine that both Barron and Melania are focused on making sure he selects the right fit for the next four formative years of his life and is able to maintain some semblance of normalcy.

“Melania’s main job is taking care of Barron, and I think it’s possible that she will follow him wherever he goes to school,” the social source told PEOPLE. “Barron is shy and reserved, and she has been a good mother to him all of these years.”
