“CYCLE OF REVENGE”; Bill Maher Worries That Republicans Will Try To Arrest Biden When He Leaves Office

Liberal TV show host Bill Maher is warning Democrats about reprisal from Republicans after former President Donald Trump was indicted on criminal charges late last week.

Speaking to his roundtable of guests, Maher said Friday that he believes Republicans will attempt to arrest President Joe Biden toward the end of his time in office as part of a “cycle of revenge” for the indictment of Trump by Democrat and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Trump is expected to be arraigned Tuesday on charges that he obscured the reporting of a hush-money payment made to an adult film star just days before the 2016 presidential election.

“I always ask myself the question, ‘What is actually better for the future of the country and my future?’ Because I don’t want to live in a country where we are one of these places where whoever is president, as soon as they get out of office, they go after them. It’s almost Greek tragedy-like because you set off this cycle of revenge like The House of Atreus. And I guarantee you when Biden is out of office, Day Two, they will try to arrest him,” Maher said.

The HBO host was joined by Republican Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, who added, “I think like my grandmother said, be careful that you don’t dance on the grave of your enemy because you may fall in.”

DA Bragg’s case against Trump, the first criminal prosecution of a former president, has stoked fears among Democrats that charges won’t stick because prosecutors must tie campaign finance violations with the misreporting of business records, a novel theory without legal precedent. Court watchers compare the case to that of former Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards, who in 2012 was acquitted of using campaign funds to cover up an affair.

Since being charged, President Trump has seen his polling lead surge above other Republican candidates seeking to retake the White House from President Biden next year.
