Democrat Lawmaker Caught Shoplifting From Target

If Ron Paul was right and taxation is theft, then one tax-loving Democrat took their kleptomania to a whole new level after being arrested this week while shoplifting from his local Target.

Raghib Allie-Brennan, a Connecticut state representative, revealed on Tuesday he’d been caught shoplifting at the Bethel Target outlet store after an employee noticed he failed to scan several items as he shuffled through the checkout line.

Making matters worse for Allie-Brennan, Target claims this isn’t the first time they’ve had a run-in with the sticky-fingered politician.

“During a recent visit to the Bethel Target, two items in my armload of others were not scanned,” the Democratic lawmaker wrote on Facebook, saying he’d been charged with a 6th-degree felony.

“I was in a rush to bring items to my grandmother in the hospital, the store didn’t have bags, and I was juggling multiple purchases,” he continued.

“While I do not have a record, I take full responsibility for the error and am working through the legal processes to resolve the matter quickly and respectfully,” he added.

“I respect the law and Target’s right to enforce their loss prevention policy, and I remain committed to serving my community with transparency and integrity.”

According to the CT Mirror:

“A Bethel police summary of his arrest stated Allie-Brennan was detained by Target loss prevention personnel who told police they recognized him from “previous unreported larcenies.”

He was arrested after police reviewed security video showing him attempting to leave the store with $26.69 in unpaid merchandise, police said. The summary provided no further details.

Allie-Brennan, 33, a four-term lawmaker first elected in 2018, did not respond to a request for comment beyond his statement on social media, which did not directly address the accusation of previous thefts.”

Western Journal reporter C. Douglas Golden, citing his time in retail, suspects asset protection personnel took action against Allie-Brennan after watching him slip the noose multiple times.

“[T]his, instead, feels a lot more like the treatment given to someone who had already been caught on camera in ‘previous unreported larcenies’ but who hadn’t been confronted by security.”

Either the number of law-breaking Democrats has increased since COVID, or prosecutors have just gotten better at arresting them.

In April, the U.S. Justice Department indicted Massachusetts State Rep. Chris Flanagan over an alleged scheme to pocket $30,000 from his employer to pay various credit card debts. Just months earlier, a Democratic Boston city councilor was charged with stealing taxpayer money through a byzantine bonus scheme with one of her staffers.

Former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), now known as federal inmate 67277-050, reported to prison this month to serve out an 11-year stretch after pleading guilty to accepting bribes, including dozens of solid gold bars.

But the desire to profit off public service can cut both ways. In February, a Republican former state senator in Massachusetts was sentenced to 18 months after operating a scheme with family members to bilk the federal government out of COVID relief funds intended to keep businesses afloat during the pandemic.

Perhaps most famously, former Congressman George Santos (R-NY) was convicted last year of wire fraud and identity theft. He will begin serving his 87-month sentence in July.
