Infamous Democrats Appear To Fall Asleep During State Of The Union

Several Democratic lawmakers appeared to drift off on live television Tuesday night during President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, a moment critics blasted as disrespectful during one of Washington’s highest-profile events.

Among those seen with their eyes closed was Rep. David Scott, 80, D-Ga., who appeared to be asleep as Trump addressed the nation and outlined his assessment of the country.

Rep. Tom Suozzi, 63, D-N.Y., was also caught on camera looking drowsy. At one point, he briefly stirred and appeared to pick his teeth during the broadcast.

Suozzi seemed to acknowledge the episode later, writing on X, “I have always had a hard time staying awake watching reruns.”

Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, 59, D-Fla., likewise appeared to nod off during portions of the speech, according to reports.

The night featured other tense moments. When Trump asked members of Congress to stand if they agreed that the “first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” many Democrats remained seated.

Cameras scanning the chamber showed a stark split, with Republicans rising and Democrats largely staying in their seats.

Another flashpoint came when Trump recognized Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, described by the president as having been murdered by a repeat offender who was out on no-cash bail in North Carolina.

“How do you not stand?” Trump asked. “How do you not stand?”

Matt Van Swol, an attendee who posted about the scene on X, wrote: “Watching Democrats refuse to stand for Iryna Zarutska’s parents, who were seated 15 feet away from me. May have been the single most radicalizing moment of my life.”

“I could not believe it. I still can’t. I cannot wrap my head around it,” Van Swol wrote.
