Democrat Congresswoman Refers To Texas, Florida As ‘Deplorable States’

U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) referred to her home state of Texas, as well as the state of Florida, as “deplorable states” during a House Oversight Committee hearing on Tuesday.

Crockett was addressing the Heritage Foundation’s Sarah Parshall Perry, who served as a witness for the committee’s hearing on biological men competing in women’s sports.

“In fact, Ms. Perry, I know your organization, the Heritage Foundation, loves Texas. Ooh, they love Texas. They always sending us some nonsense bills that somehow set this country on the wrong trajectory,” Crockett said. “They send them to Texas, they send them to Florida. Every deplorable state that we can think about, they usually coming out of y’all’s think tank.”

The hearing was then paused as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) moved to strike “deplorable states” from the record as a point of order. The comment was ultimately kept in the record since it did not violate House rules by attacking an individual.

Crockett went on to insinuate that Republicans only have power because of gerrymandering, ignoring the fact that the practice is also employed by her own party. She also accused red states of denying transgender individuals “their personhood” by passing laws that restrict gender reassignment surgeries for children or bar men from competing in women’s sports.

Elsewhere in the hearing. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) voted to strike Crockett’s comments from the record, saying “I identify with my pronouns as state and states and thus, I move to strike ‘deplorable states’ from the record.”
