Democrat Staffer Embroiled In Controversy Dead At Just 36

Jerome Brooks, the 36-year-old staffer for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) who tragically lost his life in November, died from a drug overdose according to reports. The news of his passing last year came to light shortly after a leaked audio recording surfaced.

In the recording, which contained explicit language, Brooks was featured alongside Rep. Jackson Lee in an incident where she was heard scolding him and another staffer.

The Austin Police Department conducted an investigation and determined that the case did not involve homicide. Hill County Forensics has since finalized the autopsy report for Brooks, revealing that his death resulted from a drug overdose and was classified as accidental.

Brooks passed away several days following the incident where he was labeled a “fat a** stupid idiot” by the Texas Democrat, who was serving her 15th term in the House.

According to Chief Forensic Pathologist Satish Chundru, Brooks had gone to the hotel room of an individual he had met online on October 29, 2023. “There, he was observed to drink ethanol and take pills described as ‘ecstasy,’” according to KPRC 2.

Following the incident, emergency responders were summoned when Brooks clutched his chest and collapsed. Despite receiving CPR and Naloxone, he was unable to be revived. Michael Lamb, a Forensic Toxicologist with NMS Labs, determined that Brooks’s system contained alcohol, MDMA, methamphetamine, and sildenafil, a compound akin to Viagra.

In October Rep. Jackson Lee, who was vying for mayor of Houston, was captured on an audio recording cursing and insulting staff members. The audio appeared to have been recorded by the staffer himself, as he could be heard shuffling as he reached for his mobile phone, promising Jackson Lee he would contact another staffer regarding a document she had given them.

“I don’t want you to do a god**** thing. I want you to have a f****** brain. I want you to have read it,” Jackson Lee said. “Nobody sent me the information. I need to, uh, ensure my, um, schedule and, uh, you know, if, if Boo Boo did it, s*** a** did it, f*** face did it. And nobody knows a god**** thing in my office. Okay? Nothing. I gave it to you.”

Jackson Lee confronted a second staff member about the paper surrounding an event honoring the late Ovide Duncantell, founder of the Black Heritage Society. During his lifetime, he was actively involved in Houston politics, and Jackson Lee is presently running for mayor there.
