Disney Movie Star Charged With Sickening Crimes

Former child actor Matt Prokop, who appeared in Disney’s “High School Musical 3,” has been arrested in Texas and is facing a stack of serious charges, including possession of child pornography, Fox News Digital confirmed.

Prokop, 35, was taken into custody Dec. 24 in Victoria County, Texas, according to a jail employee. Authorities said he is being held on multiple counts, including four misdemeanors: one charge of violation of bond or protective order, one count of evading arrest or detention, and two counts of resisting arrest, search or transportation.

In addition to those charges, Prokop is wanted on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a dating or family violence case. He is also facing a second-degree felony charge for possession of child pornography.

The arrest brings renewed attention to Prokop’s troubled past, including allegations made by actress Sarah Hyland during their former relationship.

The “Modern Family” star accused Prokop of verbal and physical abuse during their five-year relationship, which ended in 2014. Court filings from that time alleged that in May 2014, Prokop slammed Hyland into a vehicle and choked her during an argument.

Hyland later said the situation worsened when Prokop allegedly threatened to kill her dog and burn down her house after she tried to end the relationship.

Julie Bowen, Hyland’s co-star on “Modern Family,” reportedly stepped in to help her leave safely in August 2014. A restraining order against Prokop was granted the following month.

Hyland and Prokop met in 2008 at an audition for “High School Musical 3.” They later co-starred in the Disney Channel movie “Geek Charming” and dated for five years before splitting in August 2014.

More than a decade later, Hyland has said the trauma from that relationship still lingers. Speaking to Variety in October 2024, she described how memories of abuse remain with survivors.

“It’s almost like you don’t wanna talk about it anymore,” Hyland said. “You want it to be done, and that’s that. I completely understand the dissociation pattern of it.”

Hyland, who married “Bachelor” alum Wells Adams in 2022, added that the emotional scars can last.

“I don’t know if that part [of] any woman will ever be fully healed from that,” she said. “It’s something that kind of scars her soul a little bit.”

Prokop remains locked up in the Victoria County Jail as the cases move forward.
