Disney’s Woke ‘Snow White’ Officially Hits Rock Bottom With Worst Ratings Ever
Disney’s latest live-action remake, Snow White (2025), has officially become the fairest flop of them all. With an abysmal 1.5/10 score on IMDb from over 285,000 users — one of the worst ratings in the platform’s history — the film has cemented itself as a cautionary tale in woke filmmaking gone wrong.
The numbers speak for themselves. According to industry projections cited by Deadline, the Rachel Zegler–led film is on track to lose a staggering $115 million, despite a global box office gross of $225 million. The final tally includes a domestic haul of just $100 million, falling short even of 2019’s Dumbo, and an overseas gross of $125 million.
Its second weekend in U.S. theaters brought in a meager $14.2 million, a sharp 66% drop. Critics and audiences point to the film’s tone-deaf political messaging, lackluster storytelling, and controversial marketing campaign — most notably from its lead actress, Rachel Zegler.
In a now-infamous 2022 interview, Zegler slammed the 1937 Disney classic as outdated and “creepy,” saying the original Prince character was “a guy who literally stalks her.”
She doubled down by insisting her Snow White “is not going to be saved by the prince,” a quote that alienated longtime fans and reignited criticism about Disney’s constant rewriting of its own history. Even insiders are pointing fingers.

BANGKOK, THAILAND, 14 March 2025 – A standee of Snow White Display at the cinema to promote the movie ahead of the premiere.
Jonah Platt, the son of Snow White producer Marc Platt, torched Zegler on social media after reports surfaced that his father had to fly across the country to personally reprimand the actress. Platt blamed Zegler’s “political grandstanding” for sabotaging the film’s rollout, writing, “She signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity. This is called adult responsibility and accountability.”
He didn’t stop there. “Her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office,” he wrote, adding, “Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”
The controversy started long before the movie even hit theaters. Actor Peter Dinklage criticized Disney’s portrayal of dwarfs in early production stages, prompting the studio to replace them with so-called “magical creatures” — a decision that drew even more backlash from fans of the classic tale.
Despite a top-tier creative team — including 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb, Wicked producer Marc Platt, and Oscar-winning songwriters Pasek and Paul — the film failed to generate goodwill. Even Barbie director Greta Gerwig, who reportedly had input on the script, couldn’t salvage it.
The film’s reception has been brutal across the board. Rotten Tomatoes scores it at 42%, Metacritic offers a middling 50, and CinemaScore audiences gave it a lukewarm B+. Perhaps most telling, only 43% of moviegoers said they’d recommend it to others, according to PostTrak.
Adding insult to injury, the $270 million production was plagued by delays due to strikes and even a fire on the U.K. set. Throw in $111 million in global marketing costs and $29 million in other expenses, and Disney’s dream of revamping a classic has turned into a full-blown nightmare.
As the film limps toward its inevitable Disney+ release, some execs hope it might find new life through streaming. But for now, Snow White is the latest chapter in a string of Disney flops — a tale less about magic and more about misguided messaging and financial failure.
