Donald Trump Jr. Responds To Speculation About A Future White House Bid

Donald Trump Jr. delivered a fiery response to a story citing anonymous sources that claimed he is “seriously” considering a presidential campaign in 2028.

The report emerged from Mediate, a news website that covers the intersection of media and politics, which claimed the president’s eldest son was giving serious thought to a White House bid and was consulting with advisors. It cited “three high-level sources” in suggesting that Trump Jr. could be seeking the Republican nomination, a move that has been floated only as a hypothetical by pundits and media outlets in the past.

In response to the report on Friday, Trump Jr. vehemently denied the suggestion by seemingly throwing his support behind Vice President J.D. Vance. Both Trump Jr. and his brother, Eric, reportedly played a major role in convincing their father to select Vance as his running mate last summer.

“I accurately predicted that my buddy JD would be an instant power player in national GOP politics, so your theory is that I worked my a** off to help get him the VP nomination because I want to run for president in 2028? Are you f***ing retarded?” the president’s son wrote in an X post. “I’m actually glad you’re printing this [expletive] though because at least now the rest of the press corps will see how [expletive] your “sources” are and how easily you’re played by them. Congrats, moron.”

While 2028 is a long way off, the vice president has indeed emerged as an early frontrunner. According to the Conservative Presidential Action Committee (CPAC) presidential straw poll for the next presidential election cycle — which is widely seen as a major barometer for Republican candidates — Vance is wildly popular among the Trump base.

Vance ran away with the poll, receiving an astonishing 61 percent of the vote. Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon came in second with 12 percent, though the “War Room” host has given no indication that he intends to pursue a bid for president.

Florida Governor ron DeSantis — who unsuccessfully campaigned against Trump in 2024 and is expected to once again throw his name once again in the ring in 2028 — received just five percent of the vote.
