Donald Trump Jr. Secures Influential New Role

Polymarket, the world’s largest predictions market, has just received a substantial investment from Donald Trump Jr. and his venture capital fund. The fund, 1789 Capital, which Trump joined in 2024, invested a substantial infusion of cash into Polymarket, which, according to Founders Fund, is valued at over $1 billion.

Thanks to this investment, Trump Jr. will become a member of the prediction market’s advisory board. As of this writing, Polymarket has hosted over $6 billion in predictions in 2025.

According to Axios, Polymarket has just paid $112 million to acquire derivatives exchange QCEX, along with a CFTC license. The company also announced that both the Justice Department and CFTC have closed out investigations into the company. Part of the probe involved an FBI raid last November of CEO Shayne Coplan’s apartment.

A source familiar with the situation says that 1789 Capital founder Omeed Malik and Coplan first began talking around 18 months ago, but that the firm waited to invest until there was a clear legal path for U.S. market entry. 1789, whose portfolio also includes Anduril and SpaceX, views Polymarket as an eventual IPO candidate,” the report added.

For those unfamiliar with prediction markets, they are essentially platforms where users bet money on the outcome of specific events. These have become popular, according to CoinDesk, due to their accuracy and speed, which surpass those of traditional polling and punditry.

During elections, as the big day approaches, these particular markets often serve as fairly accurate gauges of what the public thinks and feels about a certain issue or event, and are a solid tool for risk assessment.

“The investment aligns with 1789 Capital’s stated mission to back technologies that reinforce ‘American dynamism,’ a term increasingly used by conservative venture capital circles to describe a return to domestic innovation and self-sufficiency,” CoinDesk explained.

Polymarket gained significant attention in the public mainstream during the 2024 presidential election. Many of the platform’s users accurately predicted that Donald Trump would defy the odds and defeat former Vice President Kamala Harris to become the president once again. This flew in the face of the results being pulled in by traditional pollsters, and bettors on the platform were ultimately correct in their assessment.
