John Schneider, famed for his role in the iconic television series “Dukes of Hazzard,” has found himself under the scrutiny of the United States Secret Service. The actor and vocal conservative is facing an investigation following online remarks he made about President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.
The situation unfolded when Schneider, in a now-deleted social media post, appeared to call for the hanging of President Biden, accusing him of “treason.”
The post was removed shortly after being posted. However, the damage was done, and the Secret Service, tasked with protecting the President and other high-ranking officials, initiated an investigation into the matter.
“Seriously, folks?” Schneider remarked to Deadline today in the second of two announcements regarding his Biden comments.
“This is my final comment on this. I neither said nor implied any such thing. Despite headlines claiming otherwise, in my post, I absolutely did not call for an act of violence or threaten a U.S. president as many other celebrities have done in the past. I suggest you re-read my actual post and pay attention to the words before believing this nonsense.”
“It’s my position, which I am entitled to have, that some of our nations leaders in Washington have lost their way, and corruption runs rampant, both on our nation’s borders and abroad,” Schneider said. “Transparency and accountability must happen in order for our constitutional republic to survive. There is no threat implied or otherwise in that statement.”
The White House and the Secret Service, operating under the Department of Homeland Security, are maintaining silence regarding any probe into Schneider. A spokesperson for the Secret Service stated,
“The Secret Service is aware of the comments made by Mr. Schneider, and as a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence,” a Secret Service spokesperson told Deadline. “We can say, however, that the Secret Service investigates all threats related to our protectees.”
If a threat is made, it typically prompts an investigation by federal agencies such as the Secret Service or the FBI. Should these agencies deem the threat credible, the individual responsible can be arrested and prosecuted in federal court.
Schneider, while primarily known for his work in entertainment, has also been involved in political discussions and issues, particularly through his social media platforms and public statements. He’s best known for his portrayal of Beauregard “Bo” Duke in the American television series “The Dukes of Hazzard” and as Jonathan Kent in the TV series “Smallville.”
Born in 1960, Schneider began his acting career in the late 1970s and quickly became a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. In addition to his acting career, Schneider has had a successful stint in the country music industry. He released a number of albums in the 1980s and 1990s, with several of his singles reaching the top of the Billboard country singles charts. His music career is marked by a fusion of classic country sounds with a modern twist, appealing to a broad audience.
Schneider’s career also extends to filmmaking and theater. He has directed and produced several films and has been involved in theater productions, both as an actor and behind the scenes.
