Residents of a small town near the Pennsylvania border are experiencing headaches, sore throats, and other concerning symptoms following a train derailment that took place on Feb 3rd. Despite reassurances that the air and water are safe, many residents are correctly worried about their health and well-being.

The concerning symptoms come after a train containing toxic chemicals crashed in East Palestine, Ohio. The derailment resulted in a massive chemical spill causing a large-scale “controlled burn” of hazardous toxins in the aftermath. The incident has also sparked fear among locals, despite the reassurances that the air and water are safe.

Last week, massive plumes of dark smoke, visible throughout eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania that resulted from the emission of vinyl chloride, which is a carcinogenic substance used in the production of PVC. A total of five cars contained the toxic chemical.

Although several state and federal agencies have maintained that the train derailment did not contaminate the air and water supplies, the residents and first responders who were interviewed by the team reported experiencing similar symptoms.

“The worst part about the wreck site was the horrible smell. The chemically, stinging odor was so strong my eyes started watering. It lingered all throughout town,” Carter Andrews said according to The Daily Wire.

“Crews seemed to be using a hose to suck the chemical film off the top of the water flowing through. We asked several questions but they refused to even acknowledge us,” Andrews explained.

They also observed an unpleasant smell in the air, oily chemical sheens in local creeks and rivers, sudden deaths of wildlife and livestock, as well as worrying health effects such as sore throats and headaches.

“This is a farm town, and there’s a lot of people whose livelihood depends on those animals that they sell for whatever reason. And if they’re tainted in any way, they’re done,” DJ Yokley, a business owner in East Palestine said. “We were living the American dream that we worked so hard for, and now we’re living the American nightmare.”

“We just want answers and they’re not giving them. What’s frustrating is the EPA tells us one thing and then two hours later it’s something different,” Yokley finished.
