Elon Musk Changes Course, Issues Apology To Trump: ‘Went Too Far’

An act of contrition by Elon Musk has upended the weekslong war of words with President Donald Trump, but it remains to be seen whether the olive branch is enough to thaw their frosty relationship.

In a brief post on X, Musk expressed what appeared to be sincere regret about the lengths he went to tarnish Trump after the two had a falling out following his departure from the government. He previously insinuated that the president has withheld files in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation because he was named in some of the past public documents.

“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” the Tesla founder wrote shortly after 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

The post has garnered over 30 million views and 65,000 reposts, an incredible reach even by Musk’s influential standards. It’s now almost certainly on the radar of President Trump, who so far has not acknowledged the message with one of his own.

Instead, Trump appears to be single-mindedly focused on California where his deployment of National Guardsmen and Marines is the center of national attention. He has posted more than half a dozen messages on Wednesday morning about the L.A. rioters, Governor Gavin Newsom, and a few expressing optimism about his recent trade détente with China.

Followers of Musk, however, received his apology to Trump with mostly positive praise.

Conservative influencer Scott Presler wrote back, “Thank you very much, Elon. We are grateful for BOTH of you. Let’s stay focused on saving our country & holding the House in 2026. We can do this.”

“Everyone who posts regularly on social media has made regrettable posts. Your posts just happen to be a bit more noticeable. I love you and President Trump and appreciate all you have done for our country,” said another who added a heart emoji.

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) offered up a simple prayer emoji in response.

Others were less forgiving.

“what about the one calling him a pedo,” Tim Miller replied.

“Of course you were about to lose tons of money so now you are protecting your reputation and interest at the loss of the American people,” reacted a fourth user.

Trump’s last response to Musk was a grave threat to cancel government contracts his company holds that are worth hundreds of billions of dollars, including lucrative deals between NASA and SpaceX, Musk’s private space exploration venture. Since then, Musk has mostly laid low, focusing nearly all of his social media posts on promoting his two companies.

The threat by Trump came after rumors surfaced in the press that Musk may have begun considering offering financial support to Democratic candidates in 2026.

“Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social last Thursday.

“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!” Trump added.
