Elon Musk Changes Tune, Stuns MAGA With New Statement: ‘Time For A New Political Party’

A détente between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump only lasted about as long as their first dramatic feud, underscoring how tensions are still simmering weeks after the mercurial Tesla founder left his government position.

In a social media post, Musk reiterated his disappointment with U.S. Senate Republicans for working through the weekend to advance Trump’s “big, beautiful” tax cuts, which some estimates suggest may add more than $3 trillion to the national debt. Reining in spending was a hallmark of Musk’s work and the impetus behind his founding of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency.

“It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” he wrote shortly after 3 p.m. EST on Monday.

The opprobrium of Trump’s signature domestic legislation is sure to stoke animosity in the Oval Office, where on Sunday, Trump offered warm words about his former advisor and praised his electric vehicle company.

“I think he’s a wonderful guy, and I know he’s going to do well always. He’s a smart guy, and he actually went and campaigned with me… But he got a little bit upset, and that wasn’t appropriate,” Trump told Fox News.

“I love the electric cars. I love his cars. I think they’re fantastic. But not everybody should have that, and not everybody wants that,” added the president.

What Musk said next stunned MAGA observers hoping for a return to the bonhomie so pervasive at the start of Trump’s second administration.

“Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people,” Musk wrote.

Musk went further, tagging House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris (R-MD) and fiscal hardliner Chip Roy (R-TX) with a follow-up post.

“How can you call yourself the Freedom Caucus if you vote for a DEBT SLAVERY bill with the biggest debt ceiling increase in history?” he added.

Harris and Roy have both been noncommittal about supporting Trump’s bill when it returns to the House later this week. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has predicted a vote could occur as soon as Monday, setting up the House to try and pass identical legislation before a self-imposed July 4 deadline.

President Trump has invested tremendous political capital in seeing the bill through to his desk and threatened to intervene in Republican primaries against lawmakers who buck his demands. One, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), felt the wrath reach back home in the form of new polling showing that large pluralities of Republicans and general election voters in his district would prefer someone new in 2027.

The breakneck speed of Washington, D.C., in the second Trump era is hard to fathom. It was just 19 days ago that Musk offered public contrition about his deeply personal posts attacking Trump, some of which suggested he was implicated in Jeffrey Epstein’s pedophile ring.

Aides behind the scenes spent the prior weeks brokering a call between both men where Musk allegedly apologized to Trump. For days, he dutifully posted about the benefits of purging illegal immigrants from the U.S. or reposted announcements by other Trump officials, an olive branch that has wilted as June gives way to July.
