Elon Musk’s Outlandish Trump Attacks Backfire: ‘Voted For Biden’
Elon Musk lit a match—and possibly torched his credibility—in one of his most erratic public outbursts to date. What began as a dispute over electric vehicle subsidies exploded Thursday into a political firestorm after the billionaire accused President Donald Trump of being named in the unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files.
“Time to drop the really big bomb,” Musk wrote on X. “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk doubled down: “Mark this post for the future,” he added. “The truth will come out.”
Despite Musk’s claim going viral, no credible source has corroborated his accusation. The post immediately ignited a storm across social media and critics pounced.
According to publicly available records and even responses from Musk’s own ‘Grok,’ X’s AI assistant, Trump’s name appears in Epstein’s flight logs, but no evidence of criminal behavior has ever surfaced. In fact, the Trump administration itself released heavily redacted Epstein-related files in early 2025, dismissing theories that the documents were being suppressed.

Commentator Auron MacIntyre laid out the dilemma plainly: “Either this is true and Elon knowingly covered for a man he is accusing of being a pedophile… or this is a lie and Elon is committing serious libel while cheapening the serious nature of trafficking minors.”
Neither scenario sits well, especially given the high-profile nature of the figures involved.

Musk’s credibility crisis worsened when users resurfaced his past praise of Trump — and even his own admission that he voted for Biden in 2020. “Where is the man who wrote these words?” one user posted alongside Musk’s 2022 tweet in which he confessed to being a “significant supporter” of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voting for Biden over Trump.

The contrast between Musk’s current anti-Trump tirade and his previous statements praising Trump’s fiscal discipline added fuel to the confusion. Just hours earlier, Musk had reposted multiple old Trump tweets about balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility, captioning them with “Wise words” and “I couldn’t agree more!”

Tesla shares also plunged 14% Tuesday, closing at $284.70 and wiping out more than $150 billion in market value. It’s the steepest single-day drop for the EV giant since March, knocking its market cap below the $1 trillion mark. The selloff comes as President Trump threatens to cut off federal subsidies and contracts tied to Elon Musk’s ventures, including SpaceX. The political blowback is rattling investors, many of whom are now bracing for regulatory backlash that could hit Tesla’s bottom line.
The timing is especially ironic given that much of the feud appears rooted in Trump’s latest legislative push — a $1.6 trillion infrastructure and tax cut package nicknamed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” Musk had repeatedly criticized the bill for cutting electric vehicle subsidies, a blow to his bottom line.
Now, with his outburst targeting Trump personally, Musk may have crossed a line even his biggest fans can’t ignore.
