Ex-Fox News Host Claims She Was ‘Muzzled’ At Network: ‘I’m Free Now’

Former Fox News personality Janice Dean is alleging that she was prevented from speaking publicly about former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo during her time at the network, saying she was effectively “muzzled” after years of being encouraged to discuss the issue.

Dean, who departed Fox News earlier this year after more than two decades with the network, made the claims in a series of posts on X this week. Her comments came after Cuomo appeared on Fox programming, prompting Dean to suggest she was no longer constrained from speaking her mind.

“Someday I’ll tell you all the story of how I was banned to talk about Andrew Cuomo after I spent years speaking out about what he did to seniors during COVID,” Dean wrote Monday morning.

She followed up with another message describing the emotional toll the experience allegedly took on her.

“I felt very betrayed during this time, and admittedly I’m still bitter,” Dean wrote. “When you share something so personal to the world, and are encouraged to talk about it for years, and then one day be told you can’t, that hurt does not just magically go away.”

The longtime weathercaster later responded to followers seeking more details. One user asked whether she had essentially been told to “shut up and do the weather,” to which Dean replied simply, “Yes.”

In another exchange, after a commenter suggested Fox News appeared to support Cuomo during his New York City mayoral campaign, Dean responded with a one-word answer: “Muzzled.”

Dean also hinted that she has much more to say now that she is no longer employed by the network.

“I have many, many, many stories. Sometimes I can’t believe the stuff I’ve been through. But I’m free now,” she wrote.

Dean became one of Cuomo’s most vocal critics during the COVID-19 pandemic after both of her parents-in-law died from complications related to the virus while living in assisted living facilities in New York. She repeatedly accused Cuomo’s administration of mishandling the state’s nursing home policy and has said the issue became deeply personal for her family.

Her public advocacy helped keep attention on the controversy surrounding New York’s decision early in the pandemic to require nursing homes to accept recovering COVID-19 patients, a policy that faced intense criticism and multiple investigations in the years that followed.

Dean announced her departure from Fox News in June, citing ongoing health challenges related to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. She spent 22 years with the network, primarily serving as senior meteorologist on Fox & Friends. At the time, Fox News praised her years of service and said it supported her decision to step away.

While Dean stopped short of revealing additional details about her time at Fox News, her recent posts suggest she may eventually offer a fuller account of what she says occurred behind the scenes during one of the most contentious chapters of her broadcasting career.
