Ex-Trump Official Erupts On Top Fox News Host

Former White House press secretary Katie Zacharia is firing back at Fox News host Sean Hannity, accusing the longtime Trump ally of blindsiding her with a hostile interview just one day before her abrupt departure from the administration.

Zacharia, who lasted just five days as President Donald Trump’s top spokeswoman, said she was stunned by Hannity’s aggressive questioning about her legal credentials after he had publicly defended her earlier that week.

Appearing Tuesday on Newsmax’s “Finnerty,” Zacharia told host Rob Finnerty she was still struggling to understand the sudden change in Hannity’s treatment of her.

“I’m just as perplexed about what happened specifically with Sean Hannity,” Zacharia said.

The former press secretary revealed that Hannity’s team had previously approached her about potentially working as a California correspondent for his program.

“We never had a conversation about my educational background,” she said.

Zacharia faced intense scrutiny during her brief White House tenure after repeatedly describing herself as a lawyer despite never passing the California bar exam.

The controversy reached a boiling point during her Oct. 15 appearance on Fox News, when Hannity pressed her about her qualifications and questioned whether she had passed the exam.

The grilling came just two days after Hannity defended Zacharia against criticism of her first and only White House press briefing, which lasted just 14 minutes and included only three questions.

Hannity also described the briefing as being “widely panned,” adding to the uncomfortable exchange.

Zacharia subsequently unfollowed Hannity on social media.

Asked whether she would consider returning to his Fox News program, Zacharia insisted she was no stranger to difficult television appearances.

“Look, I never bow away from a fight or back away from a fight, Rob. I’ve been on CNN,” she answered. “I’ve debated some of the most hostile, not anchors, but guests.

“And I have been able to do it with grace, with dignity, and walk away and even maintain decorum,” she continued.

“But because I had had a very friendly rapport with Sean and he had even made very backing statements about me on Tuesday, October 13th, really coming to my defense, I was not prepared for the hostility that I received.”

The interview has also fueled speculation about whether Hannity deliberately put Zacharia on the spot with approval from someone inside the White House. Fox News and Hannity have denied that allegation, and Zacharia did not claim to know what prompted his questioning.

Zacharia’s short-lived tenure ended after Trump encouraged her to reconsider remaining in the demanding position amid mounting criticism of her performance.

“You don’t have to do this if you don’t want,” Trump recalled telling her.

Despite the embarrassing exit, Zacharia made clear that she remains firmly behind the president and would welcome another opportunity to serve in his administration.

“Absolutely. I would do so in a heartbeat,” she said when asked whether she would work for Trump again.

She was less certain about returning to the press secretary position.

“I don’t know if I’d say I want the old job back, though. If the president asked, as he did before, I would take it, Rob.”

Zacharia also floated Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo as a potential replacement at the White House podium.

“I thought Maria Bartiromo was an excellent choice for President Trump,” she said. “She is tough. She is loyal. She knows every little detail on the business side, but also on the political side.”
