FACT CHECK: Biden Claims Inflation Was “Already There” When He Got in Office
While speaking to reporters on Friday, President Joe Biden was asked about inflation.
At pone point during the press conference, a reporter asked Biden if he takes any blame for inflation.
“Do I take any blame for inflation? No.” Biden said.
“Why not?” the reporter asked.
“Because it was already there when I got here, man!” Biden shot back.

Claim: Inflation was already present when Joe Biden got in office therefore inflation is not his fault.
Verdict: FALSE.
During Donald Trump’s presidency, annual inflation rates were as follows.
2017: 2.1%
2018: 1.9%
2019: 2.3%
2020: 1.4%
As noted by thebalancemoney.com, a healthy inflation rate is around 2%. During Trump’s time in office, inflation hovered right around 2% through his four years as president.
Almost immediately after Biden took office, inflation began soaring.
Check out Biden’s annual inflation rates so far below:
2021: 7%
2022: 6.5%
